About

Movement Bites fosters innovative performance and media works through dance, film, and interdisciplinary collaborations with a focus on process. Our belief is that collaborative art, especially in forms like movement-based and multimedia work, has a unique power to build connections across social demographics by creating shared spaces of expression and mutual vulnerability. When artists from different backgrounds come together to co-create, they bring their lived experiences into dialogue through the language of the body, sound, imagery and narrative, fostering empathy as participants must listen, adapt, and respond to each other in real time.

We support and generate work across mediums, primarily work across the mediums of dance, film, aerial cinematography, site specific live performance, music and creative writing. Through these collaborations, we build community, sharing stories across different platforms and reaching broader audiences.

Multi Media Works

Container

An examination of feeling constraints and spaciousness. Although a product of isolation during the pandemic, this work explores a continual experience of containment and the many containers we all exist in, be it in one’s body or in one’s environment.

Geometries

A study in the restraints of synchronized, parallel movement and improvisation. Constructed, geometric movement is viewed from above and contrasted by organic improvisation in a planar view. The movement artists sense each other closely to stay in rhythm. Filmed in the sounds of the city scape, music is layered during editing to amplify the contrasts of the movement.

Tri Improv

A multi-layered, collaborative improvisation made in 2020 during a time of distancing. The movement and aerial camera work are simultaneously improvised, sometimes responsive to each other, sometimes navigating independently. Improvisation informed the editing process; making instinctual choices and moving through feeling. Finally, an improvisation from Jesse Garcia was layered as sound.

Shadow Sound

An experiment in shadows and sounds via aerial angles, sans traditional music. Both movement and the camera are following light and shadow in this short exploration through a vertical perspective. Sound is layered in response to the movement in an open narrative.
